Strong M6.5 earthquake hit Costa Rica
M6.6 M6.5 hit Costa Rica on October 24 at 00:45 UTC. According to USGS the epicenter was located 10 km (6 miles) NE of Hojancha, 12 km (7.5 miles) S from Cañas, 61 km (38 miles) SSE from Liberia and 141 km (88 miles) W from SAN JOSE, Costa Rica (10.118°N, 85.348°W) at depth of 20.1 km (12.5 miles). EMSC recorded magnitude 5.9 5.5 6.4 at depth of 60 km (37.3 miles) and GEOFON registered magnitude 6.2. Local OVSICORI registered M 5.8 6.2 at a depth of 6 9 km.
It was followed by M4.5 at depth of 11.1 km (6.9 miles) about an hour later according to USGS.
USGS PAGER issued yellow alert level for economic losses and green alert level for shaking-related fatalities. For now, there is no reports of casualties.
The earthquake occurred in the same area where the M7.6 hit a month ago.
